In a quiet corner of the Lake Field stood two Chinese pagodas, designed in the 1980s by Quinlan Terry, sentinels in a beautiful small landscape awaiting a garden.
To complete the design Marylyn Abbott placed two ribbon beds using plants of Chinese origins. Firstly there is a grove of miniature acers in burgundy tones, then peonies, the herbaceous "Buckeye Belle", the darkest known red and the tree peony "Black Pirate" in similar tones. These beds flower in late May. The dragons were designed by Nick Muskcamp and painted by James Adam.
