The Lake Field was restored in 2000 with its centrepiece, a lake, in classical design with a pineapple topped birdcage on its tiny island. In early spring, the Lake Field is crammed with fritillarias, daffodils, bluebells, camassia and finishes with Turk’s Head lilies. On one side a hornbeam hedge ride leads to a black folly and on the other, a shell encrusted grotto acts as the overflow mechanism for the lake.
