TIPS for Tulip Growing

Traditionally, Tulips are planted as the temperatures drop from late October to the first frosts. Late planting has been the time honoured means of protecting the bulb from any fungal or viral disease that may effect the bulb.

  • Plant in a bed 4” deep and no more than 4” apart, in crumbly soil, or soil with compost to promote drainage.
  • For planting in a pot, for example, use 10 or 12 bulbs in a 10” pot, 3” deep in a multi-purpose compost
  • If you are layering a group of tulip bulbs, plant the tallest and latest flowering tulips at the bottom.
